Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible. Its 176 verses sing the praises of God's Word and weave the Bible into the fabric of our daily lives. This robust chapter inspires us to yearn deeply for biblical understanding.
Scripture melds into prayers.
"Teach me thy statutes."
"Open my eyes to behold thy Word."
"Incline my heart to thy testimonies."
These brief requests can spill from our lips in fleeting moments or linger as we focus on God. Use them to begin a conversation with Him while drinking coffee, folding laundry or before drifting off to sleep. Let’s infuse God's testimonies into our daily grind and allow them to nourish our minds.
Communion with God soothes our souls as we think deeply about His truth. Consider these simple prayers to refresh and replenish our souls with the goodness of God.
Open my eyes to behold wonderful things in Your Word (Psalm 119:18).
Use this beautiful prayer to begin the day. Come to the Scriptures with open eyes and a heart ready to stand in awe of God.
Enlarge my heart to run to Your Word (Psalm 119:32).
Our sinful desires cause us to shrivel. But the Bible broadens our capacity to seek Him, allowing us to flourish in His strength and power.
Quicken me in Your righteousness and lovingkindness (Psalm 119:40,88).
Without Christ we are "dead in trespasses and sins" (Ephesians 2:1). His voice brings us to life. His righteousness breathes the essential air of love and mercy into our needy souls.
When we pray the Bible our monologue to God becomes a conversation with God.

4. Teach me Your Word (Psalm 119:64).
To grow is to be teachable. Let’s plant God's truth in our hearts, saturate the soil of circumstances with Word-filled prayers and wait on God to ripen the bountiful fruits of grace and peace. Then, we can freely share the harvest with others.
5. Give me soundness in Your Word instead of shame (Psalm 119:80).
God’s Word stabilizes our thoughts. Like the studs that hold up our house walls, His truths shape our relationship with Christ. Instead of being unprotected from the sinister lies of the devil, we can hold fast to what He declares about our standing with Him.
6. Give me understanding of Your Word (Psalm 119:144).
Understanding clears the path for wisdom to flow through our lives. Like a dry riverbed that yearns for water, praying the Bible awakens our craving for God.
7. Seek me when I stray from Your Word (Psalm 119:176).
The reality of a sin-marred soul bleeds through in this verse. But even in those crucial moments of decision we can commune with God. When our thoughts are entangled in Satan's web of lies we can pray our way to safety using God's Word as our light.
Prayers are deathless. They outlive the lives of those who uttered them.
