Stuck on an upcoming work or school assignment? Confused about the first step? Intimidated? I’m with you.
While in college, I often set tiny goals. Turning to the first textbook page created the simple step of beginning and helped me realize the task wasn’t as daunting as it seemed.
Deciding to simply begin energizes our Bible reading. But with sixty-six books, 1,189 chapters and over 700,000 words where do we start? Here are a few small steps.
Take the step, turn the page, notice the art of beginning.
Ask God
Let’s ask God to guide our time with Him.
Try it: Before reading the Bible, pray “Open thou mine eyes that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law” (Psalm 119:18).

Start Small
Reading a verse or chapter each day nourishes us like a healthy meal.
Try it: Read this verse and consider reading the whole chapter. “How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” (Psalm 119:103)

Seek Guidance
Asking God for understanding creates a conversation with Him about His Word.
Try it: As you read the Bible pray for direction. “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” (Jeremiah 33:3).
